Parks
The Park was created in 1806 by Eugenio de Beauharnais and occupies an area of 800 ha, part of which is cultivated.
The remainder consists of glades and woods. The river Lambro flows through the park and many treelined avenues lead week-end picnickers to the many beauty spots which the park has to offer. The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, (national car race track), was built in 1922 through the initiative of the Automobile Club of Milan. It occupies a large area in the northern part of the park and is open all year round. The motor-car and motor-cycle races which are held here are world famous, such as the Italian F. 1 Grand Prix, the Monza Lottery International F. 3 Grand Prix, Superbike World Championship and others. There are two motor-racing tracks, one is elliptical and 5,770 metres long. The other is a high-speed track which is 4,250 metres long with banked corners in reinforced concrete.
The elliptical track has a an alternative variation of 2,405 metres called the Junior Track, which can be illuminated for racing at night. The entire layout of the track is covered by a television system so that every instant of a race can be televised. On the North side of the motor-racing track is an excellent camping-site which is visited every year by many tourists. The Mirabello horse-racing track is in north of the park and here, in the summer season, horse races were held. There is also a polo ground here. There is also a magnificently equipped golf club in the direction of Porta S. Giorgio. There is an 18 and a 9-hole course, in the middle of trees and fields, and world-class tournaments are held here.
